Gpi Pharma delivers three 17 m³ tanks for Fresenius Kabi

Fresenius Kabi produces, develops, and distributes medical products, such as infusion fluids and clinical nutrition. At its facility in Uppsala, the company fills infusion bags with various infusion solutions. To enable future business growth, there was a need for additional tank capacity. Fresenius Kabi approached Gpi Pharma with a request for three stainless steel storage tanks.

Sten Hermodsson, project manager at Fresenius Kabi, talks about the request: ‘We requested quotes from several suppliers. Gpi was recommended by a third party. Gpi proposed Alekto Process AB for obtaining local references, which contributed to the decision to choose Gpi. After comparing the different offers, we found Gpi to be the best option.’

The assignment

The project involved designing, manufacturing, and supplying three stainless steel tanks for the storage of various oils. Fresenius Kabi already had similar tanks in use, so the design of the new tanks had to be compatible with the existing installation. The tanks have a capacity of 17 m³ and are equipped with spray balls and various connections for media supply and process instrumentation. The tanks are made from stainless steel 316L and built according to EN 13445 standards, and were delivered with CE PED certification. The tanks are fitted with a Klöpper top and bottom, with a total height of nearly 8 meters. For optimal hygienic finishing, the tanks were electropolished on the inside.

The result

In May 2023, the order was placed, and just over half a year later, the tanks were in place at their destination in Sweden. The tanks were transported by truck over more than 1500 km from Lopik to Uppsala, where they were installed by the customer in a new section of the factory. Sten is enthusiastic about the arrival of the new stainless steel tanks: ‘The tanks have been implemented into our existing and new production line. As a result, we have more capacity and have expanded our production capability. This allows our company to continue growing in the future.’

The collaboration

The company looks back on the project and collaboration positively, as evidenced by a follow-up order for five more 17 m³ stainless steel storage tanks. The project manager at Fresenius Kabi reflects on the experience with Gpi: ‘The cooperation went smoothly; we received clear answers, and the communication was transparent. The delivery of the tanks met our expectations. The tanks are of good quality, and the documentation was also well organized.’
